Happy first week of spring, everyone!

Each week we will bring you a roundup of public food events in the Portland metro area. It’s not every single event that’s going on, but the ones in particular that catch our eye. Portland Mercury’s Highball

Tapas Thursday

On Thursdays during the month of March, head over to Bar Vivant for great food and drink deals. You can get free tapas (one tapa up to $4 per each adult beverage purchase, while supplies last), $5 Tinto & Txakoli (a Basque wine), and 10% off all wine bottles. Happy Hour all night, too. 10th Annual Brew Hog
Thursdays, March 22 and 29, 2018; 6-10pm
North 45 Pub, 517 NW 21st Avenue, Portland

Each Thursday evening until March 29, North 45 will feature one of 24 different brewers, complete with smoked ribs and other menu pairings from Chef Ashley. The featured brewer for March 22 it’s Leikam; for March 29 it’s Grixsen. More information.

Wine Maker Dinner Series—Random Wine Company

Join in this small, intimate dinner of Quaintrelle’s thoughtful Northwest-inspired dishes paired with compatible wines. The winemaker will discuss their wines with the guests as they go through a four-course meal. Random Wine Company, run by Beau Carufel, is a nano-wine company in the PNW, and produces 350 cases/year. Spring Equinox Dinner

Orval Day 2018

Orval Day is a Seattle import, but that’s OK. It’s in place to honor the 1000-plus-year-old Orval Trappist Ale brewed at Notre Dame d’Orval Monastery. When you purchase two bottles to go in the Belmont Station bottle shop you’ll get some Orval swag Also: “For each bottle of Orval sold in the US in March 2018, Merchant du Vin will donate fifty cents to MAP International, providing lifesaving medicines to people in need around the world. A one-dollar cash donation to MAP provides $80 worth of medicine!” More information.

Portland Farmhouse and Wild Ale Festival
Saturday and Sunday, March 24 and 25, 2018; Saturday noon-10 pm , Sunday noon-6pm

Take advantage of Portland’s only Farmhouse beer festival, which is also the PNW’s largest event celebrating American Farmhouse and Wild/mixed fermentation ales; more than 50 beers will be available. Along with the beer (including exclusive beers and bottle releases) there will be cheese and charcuterie boards available. 21+ only. Tickets (buy here) are $25 each, which gets you 10 drink tickets and a collectible glass. The Sunday Ticket Special (only for use on Sunday) $40 for a two person entrance package including two collectible branded glasses and fifteen drink tickets to be split between you and a friend or loved one. Winter Farmers Mercado

8th Annual TOAST: The Original Artisan Spirits Tasting

Taste a variety of spirits—over local and global 120 spirits (Whiskey, Rum, Gin, Vodka, Brandy, Liqueurs, Absinthe and Aquavit) from about 50 distillers. Sunday Suppers

DOC’s menu changes weekly, and is sometimes updated on the website. This is a chance to hang out with your fellow Porlanders over a delicious family-style meal, shared stories, and laughter. Wine paring available with each meal. $35 each. More information.

Gluten-Free Fried Chicken Supper

Every Sunday night in their small kitchen, Ground Breaker makes gluten-free fried chicken with sides. Although they dredge the chicken in buttermilk you can reserve a dairy-free version if you call by 9pm the night before. More information.

Paella Night at Petisco

“Michael prepares your feast in the larger-than-life Paella pan on the patio while Sabrina makes sure your tables are never without tasty bites.” This is a communal celebration of Mediterranean food and the season. Hamilton Wine Pairing Tasting Week

Hamilton is in town and “Portland’s weirdest wine shop and bar” is here to celebrate that fact with wine. They are pairing wines to 12 different characters—taste eight wines for $25, or taste all 12 for $35. More information.

Pints for Parkinson’s Kick Off Party

“Join us for the Pints for Parkinson’s kick off party! Small Bar Omakase Dinner with Chef Yoshi

$1 A Shuck Pacific Oyster Pop Up Bar

Taylor Shellfish Farms XS Pacific Oysters from Totten Inlet will be featured in this edition of the oyster pop up bar. $1 a shuck and they go great with beer—pFriem Juicy and Triple IPA and/or Block 15 Mango Song and Sticky Hands Tropical Slam IPA will be available. More information.

And It’s Portland Dining Month!

For the month of March, Portland will be celebrating Portland Dining Month, presented by Travel Portland. As of this writing, 127 restaurants are participating, offering three courses for $33. Portland Dining Month is a great way to get to know new-to-you restaurants for a good price, and a favorable way to return to your favorite spots, too.
