As someone who loves to eat food from the world of global cuisine, you can bet I’m pretty chuffed about the upcoming campaign, Around the World in 82 Dishes. It’s billed as “an international food tour of 82nd Avenue,” and judging from the list of participants, that’s right on target. The campaign goes from Friday, October 11 to Sunday October 27, a little over two weeks. $5 specials are the name of the game.

Not only do you get to try a range of cuisines and expand your palate, you also get the chance to win prizes. Here’s how it works:

  • Grab a passport from any participating restaurant, bar or cafe between October 11 – 27
  • Earn a sticker when you purchase a “$5 special” from each restaurant listed in the passport; earn a second sticker when purchasing an additional menu item
  • Collect stickers in your passport as you visit other restaurants, bars or cafes
  • Turn in your passport to any participating business by October 27 and get entered into a raffle
  • Earn the chance to win $100, $50 and $25 gift certificates from participating restaurants (the more stickers you collect, the larger the prize you can win)

“We are very happy to be sharing great food from several of 82nd Avenue’s restaurants and food carts!” exclaims 82nd Avenue of Roses Business Association Board President Nancy Chapin. “Put us on your calendar, taste food from around the globe, and experience the 82nd Avenue of Roses with us October 11th to 27th!”

Here’s a list of participating restaurants:

Supporters of this event include Fubonn Shopping Center, Cartlandia, Garry Small Saab, PCC Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Todd’s Point S and Venture Portland.

82nd Avenue has many gems along its path, and it’s really worth heading over and spending some time there. I’m looking forward to checking out a number of these places!
