Over the past several days, I’ve noticed some activity in the space that used to be home to Pono Soul Farm Kitchen (4118 Sandy Blvd). As you can see, the windows are papered over (that usually means something new is coming); myriad people have been coming and going; also, there was a little box on the side of the building parallel to Sandy Blvd (it used to hold Pono Soul Farm Kitchen’s menu for the day) that contained an ad for the space, and that ad is also gone.
When they mean open late, they mean open late—til 4am Friday and Saturday, 3am the rest of the week.
Yesterday was the first day Sizzle Pie Hollywood was open (soft opening), so we headed over for some slices—and to check out the space. Turns out they didn’t do any kind of major overhaul, but the place feels more spacious, fresher, neater. I was told that it took about a month and half to get it all spruced up. Out with the old pizza, in with the new.
I’m currently out of town on a “working vacation,” but I still got the news via email from the neighborhood that Sizzle Pie is moving into the old Atomic Pizza space next door to the Hollywood Theatre. Reo’s Ribs—all boarded up but will open eventually.
This week I read an update on Reo’s Ribs by the Hollywood Star. They report that “plans are underway” to restore the building that was home to the most aromatic restaurant in the neighborhood. I miss the smell of barbecue as I walk by, and I feel bad that the building burned and forced Reo to temporarily stop operations this past May.
