The Taste of Division and Clinton

Peking Duck Month
December 1-30, 2017; times vary

From the Departure staff, this special month features:

  • The Peking Duck is cured in 5 spice, blanched in honey and Chinese wine, hung to air dry for 5 days, honey glazed and roasted daily, and served with a house-made cherry sauce, candied kumquats, scallions, hoisin, and cucumbers. It is also served with mandarin pancakes, encouraging guests to make mini sandwiches out of the feast.
  • The bits of meat and roasted skin left on the bones are removed and a savory duck fried rice is made with plenty of scallions and rendered duck fat.
  • To ensure 100% usage of the bird, guests start the meal with a cup of clear duck broth made from the ducks’ roasted bones.
  • For a final sweet note, a rich taste of creamy duck fat-coconut milk ice cream with marionberry sauce and buckwheat crumble closes the feast.

Tazón! Pozole!

Stop by Tournant to enjoy pozole, a traditional hearty Mexian soup made with hominy, stewed meat, and vegetables. “In many regions of Mexico, pozole is served only on Thursdays and is a wonderful excuse to gather friends and family around the table. We’re continuing this tradition at Tournant with Tazon (which means “bowl” in Spanish) on the Third Thursdays of each month–until it gets too hot for soup!” Bowls of pozole start at $12 and you can opt for pork rojo, chicken verde or verduras (vegan), plus tasty add-ins. Bake America Great Again

Lindsay Strannigan and Bethany Rydmark are hosting a bake sale to benefit IRCO (Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization). Treats will be for sale, made by local bakers, restaurants, and bloggers in Portland. There will also be a raffle with prizes from Parcel, Fifty Licks, Bowery Bagels, Stormbreaker Brewing, Never Coffee, The Portland Timbers and more—as well as tickets to see Hamilton in Portland. Winter Solstice Dinner

In honor of the solstice, Ground Breaker Brewing is offering a special three-course dinner with beer pairings:

  • First Course: Blood sausage, purple potatoes, red wine reduction
  • Main Course: Braised beef short ribs, stuffed pumpernickel roulade, black trumpet mushrooms, Brussells sprouts, red onion soubise
  • Dessert: Rugelach cookies with huckleberries and quince
