Last year around this time I wrote about the Galette des Rois, the traditional French king cake to honor Epiphany aka Three Kings Day (January 6), and where it was available in Portland. In 2022, accessing this delicious cake—sweetened almond cream surrounded by buttery puff pastry—was limited. Happily, there are addition options this year, which I want to highlight.
And don’t forget, part of the tradition is the fève! It can be a bean or a figurine (often ceramic), and it is placed somewhere in the cake. The person who finds it gets to be king or queen for the day (sometimes there’s a trinket or a crown involved, too). Also note: it is ok to enjoy a Galette des Rois after January 6.

Last year, Petite Provence was the prime spot to get your Galette des Rois, and you can again this year. Pre-order yours now; three days advance notice is required. They describe their Galette des Rois as, “a combination of flaky, buttery puff pastry sandwiched with delicious almond cream; the figurine and crown are included, so all you have to do is gather a group of friends and family to partake in the fun.”
Like last year, give La Provence/Petite Provence a call at any of their stores to order your Galette des Rois. Each cake is $38.95. Pre-payment is required for pre-orders. However, this year there is limited availability for walk-in purchases, too.

Their Gallette des Rois is “a light, flakey puff pastry filled with almond cream” and is baked to order. You’ll need three days/72 hours advance notice to order it, plus expect up to 24 hours between the time you order and when they contact you, which is when you arrange your pick up date. Good news, too: the Galette is available until January 31 this year!
They offer medium (9″ serves 6 for $48) and large (12″ serves 12 to 14 for $72) sizes and each comes with a fève (the porcelain charm) and a crown.
Head to the St. Honoré website to order. Pick up location are:
- 315 1st Street, Suite 103, Lake Oswego
- 3333 SE Division Street, Portland
- 2335 NW Thurman Street, Portland
