While I was walking over to Mikiko Mochi Donut shop after a nice meal at Pambiche the other day, I noticed that the adjacent storefront had a new sign up: Yunomi Matcha Portland. I reached out to the owner to learn more about the new matcha bar, and he provided me with a micro update.

Nevermind, a new bar from Quinn Matthewstearn and David Hall, along with the Lightning Bar Collective, will open on SE Division Street in the old Apex Bar space. They are aiming for a July 2025 opening.

Capes and Crepes, a new board game cafe, will open in the old Green Zebra space on SE Division. Karim Soliman and Chelsea Hughes are the people behind the project and I was able to chat with them recently about what’s to come at Capes and Crepes.

Balong is officially open. After a short time in soft opening phase, they had their grand opening this week. This Filipino-American breakfast sandwich spot (they also make fresh bread like pan de sal) from Justin Dauz opened their brick & mortar after being a pop-up since 2022. They are now located in the former Meianna Bakery in the Fubonn Shopping Center (considered the largest Asian mall in Oregon). 2850 SE 82nd Avenue #27, Portland

More good news from the Hollywood District: It appears that Missionary Chocolates will open in the old Just “4” Kids space next to the Sonder Listening Bar. This is on the heels of the news of Bar Hollywood opening recently; seems that things are looking up in the neighborhood.
