Portland food news and views
Portland! It’s where I live, work, and play. It’s where the food news happens (at least most of it). This category is one of the real constants on Bridgetown Bites and is probably a part of almost every post on this blog.
Last week I had a chance to spend some time at Cully’s Three Fifty Cafe, and tried a handful of delicious items. If you haven’t been by, I recommend stopping in soon. From coffee to banh mi to salad rolls, the cafe is offering really good Vietnamese food that I look forward to eating again.

I was over at Parkrose Hardware last week and saw this giant red sign announcing “Sandy-O’s – Sandwiches, Subs and Burgers” had popped up next door, where Heritage Specialty Foods’ Parkrose location had been for so long. For a while the space had ceased being accessible to the public (Heritage was operating behind a locked gate), and my hope with Sandy-O’s is that it can offer something for Portlanders to enjoy.

Anh Tran (of Yen Ha and Hey Chaudy fame) and Momma Le are doing a popup of Vietnamese food, “Chém Gió” (“slang for ‘shoot the breeze’ and sometimes make things up to create a fun conversation”). It started yesterday, April 13 and goes until Sunday, April 16. Times are: Friday/Saturday 4pm to 1am, Sunday 3pm to 11pm. Jerry’s Tavern is getting to closer to real. Jerry posted on his Instagram that he has a new location (lots of speculation favoring NW Portland, but nothing solid in that department right now), with a hopeful-projected opening of fall 2023. Jerry started out selling his Midwest tavern-style pies during the pandemic and they were a hit. I hope this next step in the process of making his pizzeria a reality goes smoothly.
Get a lasagna for tonight from Montelupo. Starting this week they will have take and bake lasagnas in their deli case. What a great solution for dinner, and I’m happy to see the lasagna offerings in this city expand. 344 NE 28th Avenue, Portland
Get your Mission-style burritos in PDX May 1. Myrtle’s, self-described as “most known unknown burritos in PDX,” is doing their Mission-style burrito popup next at Beulahland on Monday, May 1 at 5pm. Keep an eye on their stories and account for any updates (here’s a screenshot of the Story page). I consider spring to be “the most wonderful time of the year” when it comes to being able to order salmon shares from Iliamna Fish Co. This multi-generational family-owned cooperative fishes in Bristol Bay, Alaska, and opened access to ordering their Portland shares today. If you like salmon, this is a great opportunity to access high-quality fish in a community supported fashion.

An excellent cappuccino I had recently at Juniors on NE Prescott.
For whatever reason, coffee news is big this week. I love coffee and had a great latte from the good folks at Case Study (NE Sandy Blvd) this morning. As for the news, there are tidbits on Coava, Denizens Cafe, Barista and Roseline, and Ben & Esther’s (who serve coffee).
