Spoiler: he is not into the mochi donut (at least the ones at Coco), but liked the raised glazed, which is the standard donut he’s using when possible. Small Bites: Deadstock, Honorable Mention, Singacoustic, and More

Deadstock Coffee is closing it NW Portland shop at the end of the month. This was another big piece of news from last week that got to me late on Friday 12/19. Deadstock, which has been in Old Town-Chinatown since 2015, will have its last day of service on Wednesday, December 31. Their Beaverton location is doing well and experiencing growth, but as they say, “Sometimes, real good things come to an end.”

Mayger Coffee Will Open in the Madison South Neighborhood in Portland

Last month I meet up with Arlen Kallunki, who is opening Mayger Coffee in the southwestern corner of the Madison South neighborhood. He’s taking over the space that used to be home to a Vientamese bakery and deli called TM Banh Mi. We met up at Futura Coffee on NE Glisan and had a very nice chat about the new cafe. Here’s what I learned.

Milki Ethiopian Cafe Takes Over Old Yigebe Space in Portland

There’s a new cafe in Rose City Park: Milki Ethiopian Cafe, which was, until quite recently, the old Yigebe Coffee location on NE Sandy Blvd (also formerly Sandino Brother’s Coffee). They are offering coffee, some other drinks, pastries, and will have Ethiopian food, too.
