Ballots and Brews at Tomorrow’s Verse. On Sunday, October 25 at 5:30pm, Tomorrow’s Verse is hosting Ballots and Brews: A Community Voting Night.

“Bring your ballot. Bring your voters’ pamphlet. Grab a beer and a table with your neighbors. Research the issues, discuss the candidates, talk through what’s on the ballot, ask questions and fill out your ballot at your own pace. No speeches. No pressure. No telling you how to vote. Just neighbors, community, democracy and beer.”

Small Bites: Cowboy’s Burgers, Beer, Dawnbringer, and More

This pizza s’more blew my mind.

Cowboy’s Burgers has opened in Gresham. Their first day open was Tuesday, October 6, and they have gotten a lot of positive reviews—one person remarked, “Nothing like it in the area.” They have a pretty big menu, too. Burgers, of course, but also sandwiches (e.g., gyro, Philly cheese steak, BLT), salads, appetizers, breakfast, tacos, burritos, and more. Small Bites: Grits N’ Gravy, Farag’s, Sure Shot, and More

Grits N’ Gravy has closed. (Not to be confused with Gravy on N Mississippi.) This was a breakfast spot downtown next door to Souvlaki Queen. At first they thought they could do one more breakfast but they “have been given no leeway.” In their words, “Times have gotten hard and business has been declining since last August. We held on for as long as we could but we can’t keep going.”

Friends Share Cà Phê Opens November 3 in Portland

Friends Share, a community space in outer southeast Portland located in a former dispensary, opened their doors on Saturday, October 12 after months of planning and work. Among the activities happening there is a Sunday pop-up called Friends Share Cà Phê—a “slow drip” social cafe inspired by Vietnamese coffee culture. Their launch is this Sunday, November 3.
