While I was out of the office yesterday (a cancer survivor’s work is never done), the news dropped that Bang Bang, a sweet little spot that serves “Thai-inspired” food on NE Fremont—in what is technically Cully but feels more like Beaumont-Wilshire—is closing this month. The food and drink there, in my experience, is quite tasty, and I’m sorry to see them go.

Food Cart Pod Opening on NE Fremont Street: Update

The lot that will be home to the food cart pod on NE Fremont Street, as of June 24, 2024

Formerly the location of Barrett Automotive, and soon to be a food cart pod, this property on NE Fremont Street in Beaumont-Wilshire is now a mostly empty lot. I often drive or walk by the property and always gawk at it. The first major phase of demolition has happened already, and I wanted to know what’s next. I chatted with Daniel Silvey of DBS Group, the firm that is developing the pod, to get some updates, and I’m sharing them here.

The Sad Story of the Closing of Pho Gabo

Over the weekend I learned about the closing of Pho Gabo via an article in Willamette Week. This modest, unassuming-looking Vietnamese restaurant has been there for the past six and a half years; the location has been home to restaurants serving Asian food for over 30 years. It’s a beloved spot in Roseway (a neighborhood restaurant, you might say), and there is much dismay among many neighbors.
