A few days ago, James Helms posted on social media the news that the Rocky Butte Espresso Bar, which closed in late 2022, has a new location … as well as a new concept and new name. Along with coffee there are plans for food, and a projected opening is unknown at this time. The new name is Denizens Cafe.

Good news for Hollywood: a new restaurant named Xiao Ye is moving into a space on the corner of Sandy Blvd and NE 38th Place. This location used to be home to Beauty for the Beast pet groomer, across from the Northeast Community Center.

About a week ago as I was driving home from my acupuncture appointment, I noticed that the Sandino Brothers Coffee cafe on NE Sandy Blvd near 58th Avenue was all papered up, and that usually means something is up. Turns out it is—they are shutting down business at the coffee shop and continuing their coffee farming work down in Nicaragua.

An eagle eye’d Bridgetown Bites reader alerted me to the opening of Yokohama Skyline Eatery that is now open (soft opening phase) in the Yard building there by the Burnside Bridge. This is ramen shop (ramen-ya) offering a small but well-curated menu. The space was formerly home to BKK Thai.

In the “I’m Late to the Party” category, I only recently learned this weekend that Nectar Cafe has closed—at least the cafe as it has been. I was over in the Hollywood District yesterday and saw the signs up. They closed their doors on December 18, 2022 (one day before they planned to).
