Yesterday I became aware of something called “Dirty Drinks.” This nationwide bar and beverage fundraising campaign from Zero Foodprint focuses on the issue of soil health. Ten Portland food and drink businesses are participating this year.
Paradox Cafe has closed. After over 30 years in business, Paradox Cafe and its plant-based menu has closed at their longtime spot on SE Belmont and 34th Avenue. They posted on both their website and social media:
“Like so many other food service businesses, we can no long sustain operations and have served the final plate. So many contributing factors, that have been intensifying since COVID, have made this a necessary decision….” You can read more here. Very sorry to see them go. 3439 SE Belmont Street, Portland
One of my favorite salads, Summer Salad, which I make at home often in the summer.
We love going out for salad here at Bridgetown Bites, but sometimes it’s nice to make one at home. Here is this year’s collection of salad week recipes for you: a couple from local chefs, links to others, a vegan dressing recipe, and a salad from my own kitchen.
Portland is bursting with reasons to explore what it has to offer, and its exciting food scene tops the list—especially when it comes to Portland’s greatest salads.
The Bridgetown Bites crew had a blast curating this lineup of must-try salads, featuring everything from beloved classics at iconic restaurants to creative newcomers and even standout food carts. You never know where you’ll discover the salad of your dreams, so we invite you to dive into this list all summer long and share your favorites with us, which may or may not be included below.
A favorite strawberry shortcake of mine from last year, made by Take Two bar.
Strawberry Shortcake Week 2025 is from June 9 to 15. It’s a week of restaurants offering their version of strawberry shortcake, inspired by James Beard’s strawberry shortcake recipe. Last year’s Strawberry Shortcake week was fantastic—full of taste treats—and I expect this year’s to be, too. Over 40 locations will be participating this year.
