Not to be confused with “Lombardi’s” (trademarked as America’s First Pizzeria®) from NYC, Lombardo’s Pizzeria will be opening in the University Park neighborhood, offering up New Jersey-style pizzas and other Italian-American cuisine.

On the edge of the northeast corner of the Hollywood District lived Hot Lips Pizza. It closed back in March 2023 and a number of people expressed sadness about that. But according to city documents, a new pizzeria is opening in there: Fusion Curry Pizza.

It’s made with “gluten-free waffle cones shaped into a taco stuffed with our vanilla ice cream dipped in chocolate shell and rolled in roasted peanuts.” Vegan all the way. They even have some peanut-free tacos for those who are allergic. They’ll be for sale until Sunday, April 30. 3713 NE Mississippi Avenue, Portland
There’s still a few more days for Pizza Week. Pizza Week returned this year and you can still enjoy the specials in the form of $3 slices and $20 pies through Sunday, April 23. Your options are here. One of my favorite aspects of pizza week are the puns the pizzerias come up with: “Reservoir Hogs,” “I Love You Elote,” “Mushroom: Impossible — Ricotta Protocol,” and “Is it Shawarma in here? Flour Market is now open 7 days a week. Flying a little under the radar, Concordia’s Flour Market is a bakery you should check out. I have had some spectacular baked goods there—the kladdkaka made with nuts was seriously addictive in taste and texture; the challah is excellent and is one of my favorite version of this bread in Portland; the dark Rugbrod offers rich flavor, serious heft, and delightful toast. I have plans to stop in for lunch for a sandwich and salad one of these days. So stop by from 8am to 2pm. Lucky Horseshoe Lounge will reopen. Purchased in spring 2023 by Portland restaurant industry veterans Shan Wickham and Alan Maniscalco (owners of Rally Pizza, and founding team members of Ken’s Artisan Pizza), Lucky Horseshoe Lounge (next to the Clinton Street Theater) reopens as “an approachable Italian-inspired cocktail bar” on Friday, April 28. They will be open Thursday 3pm to 11pm, Friday & Saturday 3pm to 12pm, Sunday & Monday 3pm to 10pm (closed Tuesday and Wednesday). The food menu is available to-go, and diners are welcome to bring food to the Clinton Street Theater next door, which allows for outside food. I thought it might be fun to talk about five of the most delicious things I’ve had recently here in Portland. We continue to be fortunate to have so many good things to eat in this town.
Back in May, Saint Simon opened a new location on Brazee and 15th in the Irvington neighborhood, and it has been a total hit. There are often long lines of people waiting to get a cup of their excellent espresso, baked goods from Nuvrei, and a chance to hang out in a comfortable space for a little while. Their outdoor seating is really nice in the warmer months, too. But year-round they have this avocado toast that is just wonderful.

This time around an old post made its way into November’s top five: December 2021’s rundown of Salt & Straw ice cream flavors. Good news for those who like consistency, though: December 2022’s Holiday Series flavors are the same as last years!
As for traffic, Bridgetown Bites is growing, apparently. My web host has questions about traffic, so that’s why the site was down for a few days in November (they nuked it around Thanksgiving, nice … not). I’m currently in troubleshooting mode to fix the issues. And looking into new hosts (if you have a favorite, shoot me an email). Thanks for your patience. And thanks, as always, for reading.
5. Mattino’s Wine, From the Folks Who Brought You No Saint, Will Open in Buckman
While perusing my sources today I saw one document that had a big ol’ “No Saint” written on it. I thought, “Huh, that’s so familiar.” I wracked my brain and then it hit me—No Saint was the pizza/Italian eats pop-up I went to with my friend Annie many months ago. Turns out they are the same folks behind Mattino’s Wine, a “natural wine bottle shop + luncheonette” that will open on Hawthorne Blvd in the Buckman neighborhood.
