Back in February, I wrote that The Red Gate, a popular cafe in the Roseway neighborhood, closed for good, and that something else was coming in its place. That something is Fresh Love, a cafe, juice bar, and produce marketplace.
A beautiful treatment of this coffee table in the dining room at Bee’s Cakes and Cafe.
On Saturday I headed over to Bee’s Cakes and Cafe for their first in-person dining opportunity. It was so fun to see the decor, feel the vibe, and of course the pastries were excellent. Rebecca and her team have created a lovely space in Roseway.
A while back while randomly on Apple Maps I spied something I wasn’t expecting—a brewery in Roseway. That brewery is Labyrinth Forge Brewing and after many years of brewing, selling, and delivering his beer, owner Dylan VanDetta has established a tasting room on his property. And it’s pretty cool.
It’s been a long time coming, but on this Saturday, March 12 you’ll have the chance to spend time indoor at Bee’s Cakes—and Cafe! Rebecca has done a number of pop-ups over the past several months, but it’s always been walk-up/take-away. This time, though, you can get a treat, a drink, and a seat.
The Red Gate was located in what resembles an old Portland Foursquare house. The previous tenant was a hair salon.
For a number of months, neighbors have wondered what is up with The Red Gate, a much-beloved cafe/teahouse on NE Fremont in the Roseway neighborhood that has been closed for some time. Starting in September 2018, they served up espresso drinks, bubble tea, jianbings, and avocado toast, among other things; it was an interesting mix in a nice space. A reliable source has informed me, unfortunately, that they are truly and officially closed and will not be returning.
