New food menu at Leikam Brewing. They’ve partnered with Nourishment PDX, which provides locally-sourced, flavorful food. A little backstory: “The two first crossed paths nearly a decade ago as vendors at the Hollywood Farmers Market and are excited to reconnect. Ramona White, founder of Nourishment PDX, was a beloved presence at the market for 19 years, serving tens of thousands of her famous breakfast burritos to customers of all ages and Leikam sold its first beers publicly at the market weekly.”

You can see their menu here, which includes mac & cheese, a mezze plate, lamb chorizo chili, deviled eggs, and more. The full menu is available 4pm to 8pm, with a modified menu after 8pm. 5812 East Burnside Street, Portland

Well, I’ve been under the weather lately—but am feeling better)—so it’s time for a Small Bites food news update. Here are some of the tidbits that have crossed my internet desk that I thought you might find interesting. Enjoy, and have a good weekend!

Boxer Ramen is closing. They announced it over on their Instagram: “It is with a very heavy heart we announce that after 11 years of serving you our unique brand of Ramen, we sadly will be closing all of our doors for good this upcoming Monday the 29th.” They cite many challenges, including the pandemic and inflation, behind their decision to close. I’m sorry to see them go. 1668 NW 23rd Avenue, 3003 NE Alberta Street, 7847 SW Capitol Highway, Portland; 3205 SW Cedar Hills Blvd, Beaverton

Dumpling Week 2019 in Portland

Pork and Leek Dumplings

The pork and leek dumplings from Chin’s Kitchen.

The Oregonian’s Fifth Annual Dumpling Week is back here in early 2019—get your fill of dough-encased delights for $10 or less from 36 places in Portland from Friday, February 1 to Saturday, February 9. The dumpling passport is back, too: download it here.

You can find the full list of participating restaurants on the Dumpling Week website, (also in map form) but if you’re like me, it will be hard to hit them all. Real talk: even though I focus some of my time on food and eating, I also have a roster of clients who need my time, too. So, if I was to visit one place a day (and twice on the weekend) for the nine days, here’s where I’d go.

Boke Bowl. Szechuan style 5-spice duck dumplings, a fantastic flavor combination. Boke East, 1028 SE Water Ave; Boke West, 1200 NW Northrup. bokebowl.com. Daily 11am-9pm.
