Salt & Straw Ice Cream Updates + Lovely’s Fifty Fifty and Kate’s

This month (October) Salt & Straw offered a number of seasonal flavors that would likely appeal to particular sensibilities—black licorice, bubble gum, and bugs—as well as a couple that had broad appeal—candy and pumpkin. November’s flavors should be more accessible—not without a twist, though.

Here are the flavors you can expect to taste in November 2021. The topic: Friendsgiving.

  • Parker House Rolls w/ Salted Buttercream. Buttery Parker House rolls are glazed with a generous smear of buttercream and topped with flaky sea salt, then gently churned into salted sweet cream. Contains milk, wheat, eggs, soy.
  • Candied Walnut Cheesecake. Layers of rich cheesecake with notes of caramel and molasses are combined with a graham cracker crumble made with walnut butter from Spread the Love. Contains milk, tree nuts (walnuts), wheat, soy.
  • Sweet Potato Pie w/ Double Baked Almond Streusel. Sweet potatoes are roasted until they caramelize and are combined with twice-baked bits of almond croissant streusel. Contains milk, wheat, eggs, tree nuts (almonds), soy.
  • Caramelized Turkey & Cranberry Sauce. Roasted turkey bacon from Diestel Farms is added to a savory, buttery brittle seasoned with thyme and freshly ground cubeb pepper. Housemade cranberry sauce brings a sweet/tart jammy flavor to the mix. Contains milk, tree nuts (coconut).
  • Pumpkin & Gingersnap Pie (vegan) A silky, custardy coconut milk-based pumpkin pie ice cream welcomes a crumbled sugared crust, thanks to molasses-spiked gingersnap. Contains tree nuts (coconut), wheat.

According to Salt & Straw, this seasonal menu represents the first time they have added five new Thanksgiving flavors at the same time since the launch of its original Thanksgiving series. You can enjoy these Friendsgiving flavors will be available from Monday, November 1 through Wednesday, November 24 at various locations.

In other ice cream news, Sarah Minnick at Lovely’s Fifty Fifty, one of Portland’s great pizzerias, still has Organic Ice cream pints available for $10. Particularly seasonal is the Quince Buttermilk (quinces are big in the fall), but she also offers Salted Caramel, Malted Milk Ball, Mint Stracciatella, Buckwheat Honey Toffee, and Peanut Butter Buckeye. Takeout only, instructions here. 4039 N Mississippi Avenue, Portland

And this weekend is final weekend at Kate’s Ice Cream’s courtyard location at the Pioneer Lavada Jones courtyard on NE Sandy Blvd. She will be opening in the former Ruby Jewel space at 3713 N Mississippi Avenue, which is under construction/renovations right now. She will be pricing her pints at $13-$15 when she re-opens in North Portland. Speaking of her last weekend in NE Portland, she’s running a holiday special: “come with your family, friends, and dogs, dressed up in your Halloween costume, to get $1 off any scoop!” 2636 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland
