It’s that time again—time to check out what seasonal flavors the Salt & Straw folks have put together, and let me tell you, it’s looking really good. Totally up my alley. After a couple months of flavor and ingredient pioneering (e.g., bugs, turkey), it’s nice to find their December flavors are all about comfort and familiarity. Mint, eggnog, and gingerbread basically scream THE HOLIDAY SEASON.
Here’s what you’ll find as far as flavors:
- Almond Brittle w/ Salted Ganache. Hand-burned almond brittle (from Grandma Malek) with a salted chocolate coating, and chocolate ganache in a vanilla base.
- Peppermint Cocoa. Hammond’s Candies candy canes and Seely Farm‘s single-distilled peppermint oil in cocoa ice cream.
- Dwanta’s Teremana Spiked Eggnog. This is a boozy, custard ice cream thanks to Teremana’s Reposado and amontillado sherry. Nutmeg and vanilla round out the flavor profile. (Remember, Dwanta Claus is The Rock and he also founded Teremana Tequila.)
- Gingerbread Cookie Dough. Housemade molasses cookies turning into cookie butter, rum royal icing ice cream, plus extra cookies, all in a vanilla base.
- The Great Cookie Swap (v). “Our most ambitious vegan flavor yet.” The mix of cookies in coconut cream ice cream are snickerdoodles, strawberry thumbprints, almond bark, and molasses cookies.
I think I may have to try each of them. I can’t choose! This is a great month at Salt & Straw. See you there.
