Treats for Halloween 2022 in Portland

Who here wants to ride in a watermelon vehicle driven by a pumpkin?

Halloween is almost upon us! And while October 31 is the apex of “spooky season,” it pretty much starts the “sweet season,” with candy for trick-or-treaters, themed baked goods, and pumpkin everywhere. Check out some of the local treats you can claim to make your holiday delicious.

Bee’s Cakes. Bee’s is offering a Halloween pastry box, with items like eyeball cupcakes, “cookies and scream” cake slices, and a vampire-killer brioche buns. Pre-order until Tuesday October 25 at the link on the website. “We will have some of these items in store, but to make sure you get what you want please pre order!“ beescustomcakes.com, 7137 NE Fremont Street, Portland

Cheese & Crack. Home to, in my opinion, the best soft serve in Portland, they’ve got a spooky special going on: the Eye Scream Sundae. It’s made with their vanilla soft serve as a base, then topped with Purple Witch Goo (Ube Pudding), Chocolate Cookie Dirt, and garnished with Raspberry Blood & an Eyeball Gumball. cheeseandcrack.com, 22 SE 28th Avenue, Portland

Holler Treats. Three “scary delicious” Halloween-themed (and fall-themed, as well) ice cream pints are available: Halloween Candy, Caramel Apple Sorbet, and Pumpkin Chip. hollertreatspdx.com, 7119 SE Milwaukie Avenue, Portland

Lauretta Jean’s . Pumpkin Chocolate Cake. Back for “spooky season” this customer and baker favorite features two layers of pumpkin cake with a layer of chocolate cake and chocolate buttercream between them. You can get it by the slice or pre-order a whole one by phone (503-235-3119). Pumpkin cheesecake is also back (6” and 9” cakes or by the slice at the window). laurettajeans.com, 3402 SE Division Street, Portland

Little Red’s Bakeshop. Teaming up with Twin Leaf Bakers, they are offering a Halloween treat box, which contains 1-2 of each of the following:

  • Over the Garden Wall pumpkin pie
  • Hocus Pocus spell book brownies
  • Candy corn layered shortbread cookies
  • Bats & cats sugar cookies
  • Red velvet skull cake
  • Apple cider doughnuts

$50/box. DM @jenniwelliver (on Instagram) to order. Quantities are limited. Pickup is in SE Portland or in Vancouver, WA on Sunday, October 30 between noon and 2pm. When confirmed, payment will be accepted via Venmo.

Papa Haydn. They have put together four new treats for Halloween: Glowing Witch Cauldron, Bat Marshmallows, Brookie Mummy, and Trick-or-Treat Cookie Bag. Order them online on their website and pick up at their Sellwood location on either Saturday, October 29 or Sunday, October 30. The deadline to place an order is 11:59pm on Monday, October 24. Also: “We’ll also have a limited number of the Trick-or-Treat Cookie Bags on our pastry case Halloween weekend, but we recommend pre-ordering to guarantee you get exactly what you want.” papahaydn.com, 5829 SE Milwaukie Avenue, Portland

Pie Spot. The folks at Pie Spot have put together a few things for the season: Chocula S’cream pies and  Die Crust Cinnamon rolls, which come with a charcoal crust, cinnamon butter, and a red buttermilk glaze. There’s also their very popular Pumpkin Pie Spots available, too. pie-spot.com, 6935 NE Glisan Street, Portland.

Pix Patisserie. Specific to the holiday, Pix’s trick-or-treating “ghosts,” made from marzipan, chocolate ganache and pecans, should be available now at the Pix-O-Matic (their timing for release is “the week and a half leading it up to Halloween” but you can also call them (971-271-7166) to reserve some for pickup). Also, their fall classic, the Icabod Crème, is back in the Pix-O-Matic. It’s a tart shell filled with pumpkin crème brûlée, salted caramel, almond cream, and curried pecans. Order 8″ tarts as a special order, and get individual sizes at the Pix-O-Matic. pixpatisserie.com, 2225 E Burnside Street, Portland

Salt & Straw. I’ve stopped by now a couple of times this month and have really enjoyed some of the October special flavors, known as “The Ice SCREAM Series.” My favorites are The Great Candycopia (made with homemade Kit Kats, Reeses, Snickers, and Heath bars) and Jack o’ Lantern Pumpkin Bread, but the staff person I spoke to this week said she loves Don Bugito’s Creepy Crawly Critters in particular. Rounding off the specials are Black Cat Licorice & Lavender and Double Bubble Toil & Trouble (v)saltandstraw.com, Locations vary
