It’s that time of year—time to order your Iliamna Salmon Shares as part of their CSF (community supported fishery). I’ve talked about them before, comparing them to a CSA (community supported agriculture), as the concept is similar (buy a “share” in the farm/fisher). I’ve been an Iliamna share holder most years since 2010, and remain a huge fan of their excellent sockeye salmon filets.

Share Information and Pricing

At this point in time you can order Summer shares, Winter shares, or both. Here’s what you can get, along with pricing, which has been stable since 2022:

Summer Share—Pickup in August and September 2024

  • Full share (21 lbs) of full fillets (1 to 2 lbs each): $296
  • Full share of portioned fillets (21 lbs) of full fillets cut in half: $318
  • Alaskan cod share, portioned (10 lbs): $140
  • Case of canned salmon (24 3.5oz cans): $89
  • Case of canned salmon (24 3.5oz cans): $89

Winter Share—Pickup November 15 and 16, 2024

  • Half-share (10 lbs) of full fillets: $150
  • Alaskan cod share, portioned (10 lbs): $140
  • Case of canned salmon (24 3.5oz cans): $89
  • Case of canned salmon (24 3.5oz cans): $89
  • Hot smoked salmon share (3.5 lbs): $94

Smoked Salmon and Cod Availability

At pickup they usually have smoked salmon available for purchase, and the same is for this year starting September 1, so you can just wing it with that—or you can pre-order it at $28 per pound, or order the smoked salmon as part of your Winter Share.

The cod is relatively new. I believe they offered it last year for the first time but only in the Winter share; this year you can order it for both Summer and Winter shares. More about this fish:

“Our wild Alaskan cod is harvested on a special long-line vessel that is owned by the Bristol Bay Native Corporation (of which some of us are shareholders). This vessel has a state-of-the-art fillet machine on board allowing it to produce the freshest cod fillets available. The cod is MSC certified sustainable, and a Seafood Watch ‘best choice’ option due to the careful harvesting and biologically sound management practices.”

Placing Your Order

I placed my order today and am so happy I did—you can place your salmon share order on the Iliamna website. This fish makes for a very easy, quick dinner and provides a good source of protein that is extremely tasty. Having it on hand throughout the year is such a great thing.

You can pick up here in Portland, of course, but there are other locations, too, which you can see here. Also, you can pay just 50% now and 50% at pickup, which I find helpful from a financial standpoint.

Many thanks to the good folks at Iliamna Fish Company for continuing to provide us with delicious salmon!
