Bakeshop
This popular bakery in NE Portland is offering a couple of things for St. Patrick’s Day: Irish Soda Bread and Chocolate Stout Cake with Chocolate Glaze and Gold Dust. Kim at Bakeshop says this about the soda bread:
“It’s a mashup of a recipe with roots in both Native American and Irish culture. Our version is … more scone then bread, tender and soft and oh so grainy. The bread is lightly spiced with caraway, cardamom and poppyseed. Slightly sweetened with plump dried fruit compote; currants, figs, apricots, sour cherries and candied lemon zest. To tame all of that flavor, there are generous amounts of various whole grains: Oat, Spelt and Sonora soft wheat from local Oregon mill Camas Country, that we are milling in house. We are also house-milling Rouge de Bordeaux (a beautiful heritage hard red whole wheat) to dust the surface of the Irish Soda Bread.”
About the stout cake: “We’re using a local brewery, Grand Fir Brewing’s Heartwood Stout. Made by owner Whitney Burnside, her stout has notes of baker’s chocolate, graham and espresso adding a yeasty note to a homey chocolate cake.”
Pre-orders are open now and they will take order through Thursday, March 13. Pick-ups are available Saturday, March 15 and Sunday, March 16, during Bakeshop’s regular business hours, 8am to 1pm.
