I’m sure gonna miss you, crispy potatoes.
While perusing Facebook on Sunday night I came across the news that Chameleon Restaurant & Bar will close by end end of the year. I have had a bunch of great meals there and good memories with friends over the years—while enjoying one of best backyards in Portland—and I am very sorry to see them go.

Well, the day is finally here—Thanksgiving! A day to gather with loved ones and kick off the holiday season. I’ll be enjoying a meal with friends (I’m bringing tapenade and a warm Brussels sprouts slaw to dinner) and relaxing. Friday’s column “Four Things I Learned This Week” is also taking a holiday break. I’ll be back on Monday.

Very exciting news: Sandor Katz, fermenter extraordinaire, has a new book called Sandor Katz’s Fermentation Journeys, and will be doing a book launch party at the aptly named Ferment Brewing Co. in Hood River on November 29. This will be a nice chance to hear Sandor speak about a topic he is deeply well-versed in—traditions in fermentation—and watch his technique for making a ferment in the modern surroundings of Ferment Brewing Co. It should be a fun and interesting time. The event is free and unticketed.

Cloud Pine Tea + Culture in Milwaukie, Ore.
A couple of weeks ago I had the chance to see an old friend when he traveled to Oregon to visit his daughter, and we had lunch together at Cloud Pine Tea + Culture, a newish (est. 2021) teahouse-restaurant located in downtown Milwaukie. A mix of seriously good tea, delicious dumplings, and great conversation was a nice break from everything. I’m already looking forward to returning.
