The 10th Annual Chocolate for Congo Is This February

Now in its 10th year, Chocolate for Congo continues to work with Portland-area restaurants and bakeries to raise money to benefit Action Kivu and Eastern Congo Initiative (ECI)—non-profits investing in the women, children and communities of eastern Congo. Theo Chocolate has donated the chocolate, and desserts will be available throughout the month of February in Portland. The Never Again Coalition has organized this fundraiser.

Dumpling Week 2023 (It’s Back)

I love dumplings—and I love promoting Dumpling Week here on the blog because it’s one of my favorite themed food fests in Portland. Many thanks to the Oregonian for producing it each year. Basically you get some special dumplings for $14 or less per plate (up from $10/plate in 2019). Simple and delicious, from Sunday, January 29 to Saturday, February 4.

The Portland Mercado’s Soup Festival Returns in 2023

There are a lot of food festivals in Portland but the Soup Festival (AKA Winter Soup Festival) is one of the tastiest. I’ve attended in the past and have tasted a number of delicious soups, and am eager to return for more. This year, the festival is Wednesday, January 25 to Sunday, January 29, all taking place at the Portland Mercado.

I was chatting with a neighbor the other day and she said, “I look forward to using that new app launched by Portlanders to help you find mocktails.” And I was all, whaaaa?!? This sounds awesome! “I don’t know this mocktail app! What is it called?” It’s called BuzzCutt and it’s arriving later in 2023.

STEELPORT Knife Block Launches, Party on Tuesday 10/25

My colleague Francis Dyer, known for her important work with FEAST Portland and who also has been a huge help in communications for the Rocky Butte Farmers Market, sent me some details on the launch of a new product from STEELPORT Knife Co: a beautiful knife block. Plus, some holiday gift deals.

Their factory is right here in Portland, and I gotta admit: their products, knives, and block look pretty beautiful.
