Portland! It’s where I live, work, and play. It’s where the food news happens (at least most of it). This category is one of the real constants on Bridgetown Bites and is probably a part of almost every post on this blog.
After a two-year hiatus, this family-friendly event returns. It’s a chance to spend some time in beautiful Montavilla, hang out with friends and neighbors, and enjoy food, live music, and more.
When I was driving home from my first post-COVID massage this afternoon, I glanced over at the old Joule space on NE Sandy and 46th Ave and saw a sign installed indicating Water Avenue Coffee is opening a new cafe there. I’m really glad to see that something is being done with that space; it has been vacant for too long.
A new bar named Sad Valley—a name apropos in our COVID era—is coming to North Portland’s Humboldt neighborhood. They submitted their liquor license application relatively recently, so the hope is that they will open before the end of summer.
Although this has been a light content week, a variety of tidbits crossed my desk this week, so instead of Four Things for Friday, here are some small bites.
Celebrate with Capitola tonight. Capitola Coffee is hosting an open house party tonight: “Hey friends we are hosting an open house along with Waechter Architecture to launch the opening of our new space. We hope you can stop by on Friday, July 8 from 6 pm to midnight.” This is kind of a big deal, as Capitola is located in an all wood CLT building. Their soft opening is planned for mid-July with full opening in August. 4224 N Mississippi Avenue, Portland
Back in May, I was walking toward the Roseway Safeway entrance when I encountered a table outside filled with boxes containing what I suspected were baked goods. I could not resist my curiosity and when I saw the cupcakes I then could not resist getting a sampler box of four. They sure looked good but honestly, I did not know what to expect. Turns out they were delicious! And made by a small cadre of bakers under the name Cake’N it Better.
