Portland! It’s where I live, work, and play. It’s where the food news happens (at least most of it). This category is one of the real constants on Bridgetown Bites and is probably a part of almost every post on this blog.
I’m sure gonna miss you, crispy potatoes.
While perusing Facebook on Sunday night I came across the news that Chameleon Restaurant & Bar will close by end end of the year. I have had a bunch of great meals there and good memories with friends over the years—while enjoying one of best backyards in Portland—and I am very sorry to see them go.

Well, the day is finally here—Thanksgiving! A day to gather with loved ones and kick off the holiday season. I’ll be enjoying a meal with friends (I’m bringing tapenade and a warm Brussels sprouts slaw to dinner) and relaxing. Friday’s column “Four Things I Learned This Week” is also taking a holiday break. I’ll be back on Monday.

If you’re like me, Thanksgiving food is on your mind this week. And while turkey (roasted or deep fried?), cranberry sauce (canned or homemade?), and pie (pumpkin or pecan?) are easy to obsess about, for a change of pace consider the French macaron—and La Fête du Macaron at Pix Patisserie that starts on Thanksgiving day and lasts through the weekend. I’ve had Pix’s macarons and can say with assurance that they are some of the best in Portland.

And on the topic of pierogis… Head to St. John the Baptist Ukranian Orthodox Church in Sellwood for pierogis, this time from our Ukranian friends. They also have cabbage rolls and Ukranian garlic smoked sausages, every Saturday from 11am to 2pm. Takeout and take home (frozen) are both options. 8014 SE 16th Avenue, Portland
And again, about dumplings… Seattle biz Dough Zone Dumpling House is opening a location in downtown/south Portland, reports both The Oregonian and Eater. The space was originally home to Lucier, Quartet, and River Space restaurants. Look for dumplings—bao, XLB, buns, and more—there in Spring 2022. 1910 S River Drive, Portland
Reshuffling programs at Fressen Artisan Bakery, but it’s all delicious. Look like they will close the Biergarten dinner service for winter. As a result they will have additional staff to help with their cafe and pastry program, expanding it a bit more. Also: looks like a Christmas market is in the works, as well as wine tasting nights. 7075 NE Glisan Street, Portland
As I mentioned last month, Gobble Up was this past weekend, taking place at the Alder Block. I had a great time getting to know new-to-me vendors, revisiting some of my favorites, and running into friends while I was there. Overall, thumbs up.
