Portland! It’s where I live, work, and play. It’s where the food news happens (at least most of it). This category is one of the real constants on Bridgetown Bites and is probably a part of almost every post on this blog.
Pioneer Square the morning of Friday’s Grand Tasting—the calm before the storm. Weather was incredible that day.
Well, Feast Portland has come and gone, and my time as a volunteer is over. From all I’ve read and watched—as well as from my own experience—it was a rousing success. Scenes from the four-day food and drink festival were plentiful on social media; it’s no surprise that people were having a great time.
If I could give those of you attending Feast Portland’s Grand Tasting—or really any of the events that involve a lot of eating—one tip for enjoying the vast amounts of food that will be in front of you, I’d say chew your bites thoroughly. Welcome to another edition of First Tastes, were we showcase good eats at new-to-us spots in Portland. This city is full of delicious food and lots of places to check out, so no doubt this column will run for some time.
Avocado Toast | Radio Room. I’ll start with this because I have been critical of avocado toast for many years as “too precious” and/or “twee.” However, the time was right for me to give it a try, and I’m here to tell you—glad I did. At that moment in time, I wasn’t super hungry and this dish seemed light yet substantial, and it was hard to resist the siren song of the avocado that morning.
Toasted multigrain bread was spread with soft, ripe avocado topped with caramelized onions and a poached egg; nutritional yeast is sprinkled on top. I liked that the eggs had runny yolks and were not overcooked. The avocado tasted fresh with no off flavors. Overall a really satisfying breakfast. Radio Room, 1101 NE Alberta Street, Portland
Once again, I’ve gone through the Bridgetown Bites stats and see what readers are interested in here on the site. August 2017 was our first full month! Here’s what you all were reading.
It’s been a long, busy week but I don’t want to close it out without writing about two unfortunate litigious situations here in the greater Portland area having to do with Killer Burger + Rock and Roll Chili Pit, and Patsy’s New York Pizzeria.
