Small Bites is a roundup post I put together when I have a plethora of Portland food news tidbits in any week. It’s sort of an expanded version of Four Things I Learned This Week but can be published on any day (and sometimes take the place of Four Things. if appropriate).
Strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate gelato from Pronto Gelato.
Negroni Week starts Monday. Over 70 bars and restaurants in the Portland metro area are participating in this international celebration of the Negroni. Find a participating venue here. Multiple locations
Artisserie Lake Oswego is open. This French pastry shop and bakery opened at the end of August in Lake Oswego (they’ve been on NW 23rd Avenue for a while). They offer croissants, macarons, cakes, baguettes, and more. And brunch! Local influencer @micbanh was there recently and wrote about the brunch:
“The brunch menu is available until 3pm and features dishes like the Courgette Quiche, Suprême Dubai French Toast, Heirloom Cherry Tomato Toast, and more. They also serve bubbly and cocktails for those looking to indulge a little extra!” 50 First Street, Lake Oswego
Pamana is open. This Filipino restaurant from the folks at Baon Kainan is now open and in residence at The Hoxton hotel lobby. For their grand opening week, which started on Wednesday, September 3 and goes until Sunday, September 7, you can get:
Brunch from 9am to 2pm
NA drinks from Pamana and cocktails from Lovely Rita on Saturday and Sunday
One red envelope comes with every order during the grand opening week (while supplies last).
There will also be a local DJ spinning on the weekend.
Big congrats on the opening, guys! 15 NW 4th Avenue, Portland
bb.q Chicken celebrates 30 years. The folks from Korean fried chicken chain bb.q Chicken reached out to me to inform me that this September marks bb.q Chicken’s 30th anniversary. And not only that, it’s also the birthday of their beloved mascot, ChiBBoQ. To celebrate, they are rolling out a nationwide promotion: free delivery September 4 to 7 and free ddeok-bokki (one of the best street foods ever) September 8 to 12. 2850 SE 82nd Avenue #2 and 917 SW Alder Street, Portland
Proof Pizza, a Beaverton pizza cart, is opening a brick & mortar in Portland. They’ll be keeping the truck in Beaverton and expanding eastward to SE Portland, bringing their popular Chicago-style thin crust tavern pies with them. Look for them to be open initially the first week of September—a late night service window and pickup/delivery. Then in October they’ll have the full bar and restaurant up and running. The location? The old Pepper Box Cafe, which closed in 2023. 932 SE Morrison Street, Portland
