After a pop-up (2018), a monthly market (2019), a COVID break (2020), and three years of weekly markets (2021 to 2023), the Rocky Butte Farmers Market returns in 2024 with another season of weekly markets—at a new location.
The premiere event from the 82nd Avenue Business Association is, arguably, their Around the World in 82 Dishes food week. With the mission of promoting the variety of food cultures represented on and around 82nd Avenue, it has become over the years a meaningful Portland food event. There are changes to the program this year, which I’ll outline below (read our coverage in 2019, 2021, and 2022, for reference).
Over on Nextdoor there have been some recent posts by people worried that La Parilla Kitchen, a local Mexican restaurant and neighborhood favorite, has closed. Well, I’m here to be the bearer of bad news: they have indeed officially closed this location.
After being cancelled in 2020, Around the World in 82 Dishes—a celebration of global food options situated on and around 82nd Avenue—is back! This “international food tour” runs three consecutive weekends between Saturday, October 23 and Sunday, November 7, 2021: October 23 & 24, October 30 & 31 and November 6 & 7. This event is produced by the 82nd Avenue Business Association and is really a way to celebrate Portland’s most diverse area through food and drink within the 82nd Avenue of Roses Business District, an almost 5-mile long and 1-mile wide section of Portland—think the Clackamas County line to NE Sandy Blvd, and between SE 80th Avenue to 92nd Avenue.
Last time I stopped in here it was spring and I was living in the Hollywood District, looking forward to changes coming to my neighborhood (e.g. Gado Gado, Black Rock Coffee).
