Better late than never with this review of May’s top posts on Bridgetown Bites; Salad Week took a lot of time and attention in late May/early June. It was a lot of fun! 5. Interesting Projects From República’s Team & Associates

tacotes-republica-portland-oregon

República, a restaurant that offers enjoyment and world-expanding flavors in delicious regional Mexican cooking, has garnered high praise from both food media (PoMo’s Restaurant of the Year 2021PDX Eater’s Best New Restaurant 2021, 2022 James Beard Award Semifinalist as Best New Restaurant) and eaters in Portland. They show us that there is much to experience from a country that is often thought of in the U.S. as simply the home of margaritas, burritos, tacos—and, if you’re getting fancy, tres leches cake (these are all delicious, but are a fraction of what Mexico has to offer as far as food goes). I personally think it’s very important and meaningful to highlight the regional tastes of our neighbor to the south, and I’m glad República is doing just that.

A new coffee and wine bar called Maeve is coming to the Westmoreland section of Sellwood. It’s going to be run by two sisters, Amanda and Kendra Stark, who have experience in the world of counseling. I’m a little late to the game, but I had to blog about this Trinidadian food popup at Little Griddle tomorrow, Tuesday October 19 at 3pm. Instagram account Mad Man Pop Up is behind this and the menu for tomorrow looks delicious (and is compatible with today’s earlier post about pumpkin).

5. First Tastes: Nepali Kitchen in Northeast Portland

entrance-nepali-kitchen-portland-oregon

Despite its failings, there are some gems on Nextdoor when it comes to food. I’ve found direct-access to top-notch sources of Indonesian food, epic Lasagna Bolognese, Texas-style tortillas and plenty of local food recommendations, including the subject of this blog post, Nepali Kitchen. They’ve opened in what seems to be a house on the corner of NE Fremont and 49th Ave (across the street from Stanich’s), with a lovely little courtyard established in the front yard. And the food is excellent. Continue reading “Top 5 Posts On Bridgetown Bites, August 2021”

In the “that’s news to me” category, it has only become clear (to me) recently that The Bulgogi Korean restaurant in the Hollywood District is managed by the Du Kuh Bee family.  I had seen the signage on The Bulgogi’s window for a long time about their offering Du Kuh Bee’s famous noodles, but I was unaware just how close the two businesses are. In fact, the official name of the restaurant is now “The Bulgogi + Du Kuh Bee.” Continue reading “Top 5 Posts On Bridgetown Bites, February 2021”
