Thanks to the good folks at Slow Food Portland, I’ve learned that their next Fill Your Pantry PDX Summer Pop-Up is focused on one of the most beloved summer vegetables, the tomato. This past Saturday was the third installation of the 2021 season of the Rocky Butte Farmers Market, located on the Rocky Butte itself. I had attended the first market of the year but was very sick (thanks to adjusting to a new cancer drug) and couldn’t stay long; I was out of town for July’s market. So, I was really happy to be there in August—I had a great time and found some delicious and wonderful things.

The Rocky Butte Farmers Market at Dharma Rain Zen Center in 2019

I’m very happy share the news that the Rocky Butte Farmers Market will return this summer! As mentioned above, I’m part of the core planning group/steering committee for this market, which serves the east Portland neighborhoods of Sumner, Roseway, and Madison South; I’m lending my talents and skills with writing and editing content. In fact, I put together the latest blog post announcing the market’s return.
Basic info preview: we’ll have five monthly markets from June to October, happening the second Saturday of each month. They will take place in the expansive parking lot at Mannahouse Church (formerly City Bible Church), a “non-denominational Christian church” on the Rocky Butte itself. You may have seen their building, sort of space-age-era looking concrete domes.

Good news! The Rocky Butte Farmers Market will return for a second popup (read about the first one here) this Saturday, August 3 from 10am-2pm at the Dharma Rain Zen Center, 8500 NE Siskiyou Street in Portland.
