Small Bites: Pho DaLat, Speedboat Coffee, Tamales and Other Portland Food News

Pho DaLat turns ten. If you drive east on Sandy past 205 into Parkrose, no doubt you’ve seen this Vietnamese restaurant on the south side of NE Sandy Blvd and NE 103rd. They’ve been around for ten years, though I always had the impression it was longer than that. They are celebrating their 10th anniversary all throughout December by giving you 10% off your bill. 10232 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland

Four Things I Learned This Week (July 26)

Teote Tavern has closed. A Bridgetown Bites tipster emailed me with the message, “Looks like teote closed again.” Google confirms it; the website for Teote Tavern also says “Closed.” Disappointing news, for real. 5513 NE 30th Avenue, Portland

All hail the return of Nathan the Watermelon Man! I heard the good news from friends in Roseway about Nathan‘s return. While I was driving along NE Prescott yesterday, I saw his signs out. Looks like he’s set up on NE Prescott and 68th Ave.

Hummus Vitality has closed. Hummus Vitality has left the building. Well, they left Argay. A sign on the door says, “We’ve moved to 3223 NE Broadway St. as Nicholas Restaurant. We’re sorry for the inconvenience.” I was just over there recently and had some really good tzatziki (the hummus was less interesting). Sorry to see them leave. Thanks to my honorary Montavillans for sharing this update. 13816 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland

Get your ful at Yigebe Coffee. This little Ethiopian cafe on NE Sandy in the Rose City Park neighborhood is now serving Ful for breakfast. Ful, or Ful Medames, is a traditional Ethiopian breakfast dish with a base of spiced beans, often favas (I’ve seen it made with black beans). It’s topped with a white cheese, tomato, onions, jalapeño, and avocado. 5730 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland

A Few Updates: Bobacat Teahouse, Pizza, and Greek Food

I wanted to quickly update a few things here on the site that I had written about earlier.

First, we have news on Bobacat Teahouse, which I wrote about last May. I heard from multiple sources about their soft opening this week and was able to confirm that it will be tomorrow, Friday, July 19. Look for their signature boba milk teas, bubble waffles (including a new chocolate flavor), and more. They also have a new Facebook and Instagram account dedicated to this location. 1411 NE Broadway, Portland

Hummus Vitality Opening in Argay Terrace

A Bridgetown Bites tipster emailed me the following: “Neighborhood rumour has it that the people who run Nicholas Restaurant … are in the process of opening a new restaurant – Hummus Vitality.” I love the food at Nicholas—and flavor profiles from the Middle East—so this was welcome news to me. I did some poking around and this is what I found. Note: This article includes some updates as of February 22.
