Summer Supper From Urban Gleaners Is a Good Time for a Great Cause

One of my favorite dishes from last year’s Summer Summer was Goi Cá: turmeric catfish, mint, basil, scallion, greens, onion, apples, peanuts, fish sauce, and black sesame rice cracker, from Richard Văn Lê of After Ours/Matta/Mémoire Cà Phê.

Summer Supper returns to the Redd in September! This thoughtful tasting event features over a dozen talented and well-respected Portland chefs who will create dishes made from gleaned ingredients. It is also a way to celebrate Urban Gleaners’ 20th anniversary. Part of the mission behind Summer Supper is to fight food waste and food insecurity in our community, and this event is an excellent way to showcase that.

Chef In Your Garden, a Fundraiser for Growing Gardens, Is Sunday in Portland

CSA Share Fairs Will Take Place in Hillsboro and Portland in 2025

Each year the Pacific NW CSA Coalition puts together a big gathering of CSAs in the area called CSA Share Fairs. These events have been an opportunity for folks to come by and check out the world of CSAs, and this year is no different. For years—really, since the late mid-1990s—I’ve been a fan of and subscriber to CSAs (and their cousin, the CSF—Community Supported Fishery—like Iliamna Fish Co). They are a fantastic way to access local produce and other products, so I’m thrilled to tell you about these events.
