In a bit of an unintentional “sike” move, the folks behind the Sandy Jug Tavern announced yesterday that their opening day is planned for Monday, January 29, 2024.
Over on Facebook, a neighbor posted, “Anyone know what’s happening with The Sandy Jug? For lease sign is gone and people have been coming and going.” That is certainly an intriguing observation, so I did some research and learned that indeed, new life is coming to this place from something called Roseway Rambler, Inc.
Last weekend, a neighbor posted on social media that Kainos Coffee on NE Sandy Blvd is closing their cafe there at the end of September. This is a neighborhood favorite so as you can imagine, it’s a major bummer to see them depart. But there is more to the story.
Screencap from Serina Leedy representing Fresh Love on KGW’s “Hello, Rose City!” segment today.
Back in June of this year, Fresh Love opened to the public in Roseway, in the old Red Gate space on NE Fremont. Ben Cutler and Serina Leedy, Fresh Love’s owners, have totally transformed the space, with a vegetable mural circling the insides; new bench seating; a bright, light-filled dining room; and lots of delicious things, prepared and otherwise.
Back in February, I wrote that The Red Gate, a popular cafe in the Roseway neighborhood, closed for good, and that something else was coming in its place. That something is Fresh Love, a cafe, juice bar, and produce marketplace.
