Mennonite Peanut Butter Pie—one of the best desserts in Portland.
I saw the news on their Instagram today: Lazy Susan is closing; Sunday, July 23 is their final day of service. This is a surprise to me, as it seemed—judging from the difficulty in getting a walk-in table—that they were doing ok. And as the headline says, I am personally bummed about this closure.

Via Michael Zusman’s Facebook page I was tipped off to the impending closing of La Moule, a sweet European-style spot in SE Portland (described on their Instagram as “Frenchy food, beautiful cocktails, famous wallpaper & a penchant for quirk”) serving mussels, Belgian beer, and more. They will close at the end of July.

An excellent cappuccino I had recently at Juniors on NE Prescott.
For whatever reason, coffee news is big this week. I love coffee and had a great latte from the good folks at Case Study (NE Sandy Blvd) this morning. As for the news, there are tidbits on Coava, Denizens Cafe, Barista and Roseline, and Ben & Esther’s (who serve coffee).

Just today I learned about this fundraiser event happening Friday, March 31 to support “Pour the Water as I Leave.” This is a 90-minute animated, narrative/documentary hybrid feature film about the Bosnian War and its refugees, currently in production in Portland. There will be music, food and drink, among other things.

I got the news in my inbox this week that Xico, a Mexican restaurant that has served Oaxacan food in kind of “relaxed bougie” surroundings, will close. Thursday, March 23 will be their final day of service.
