A new bar called Side Eye will open in the Nob Hill section of NW Portland, right next to Cinema 21 on 21st Avenue. While it was most recently home to Round Here, it’s probably best known as the location of Muu-Muu’s. I spoke with Quinn Matthewstearn to learn more.
July was a month spent more or less in bizarro world for me because of stupid COVID, so real talk: I did not feel connected to the blog during that month as much as I usually am. So seeing the top posts for July 2022 feels a little like “it’s news to me.” But, nonetheless, it’s still fun to see what readers liked in particular—restaurant news, of course. It’s an interesting group of places. BTW, Bar Cala, Old Pal, and Sugar Hill are now open.
Sugar Hill, a new ’70s-inspired bar, will open this summer in SE Portland. The people behind Sugar Hill are the same ones behind Jackie’s (formerly Century) on SE Sandy Blvd and Two Wrongs on NW 13th Ave in the Pearl. Neither of these places have a reputation for “taking themselves too seriously,” and I expect Sugar Hill will carry on that tradition.
