Welcome To Bridgetown Bites

Welcome to a collage of delicious things you can get in Portland, Oregon.

Welcome, friends! Bridgetown Bites is a friendly place on the internet to learn and read about Portland food news.

In the summer of 2016, I moved to Portland to be near family and slow down after over a decade spent in NYC. I started Bridgetown Bites (Bridgetown is, of course, one of Portland’s nicknames) in September 2016 as an Instagram account, casually and intermittently documenting some of the things I’d eaten in my new town. I’ve spent the last year familiarizing myself with this city and now feel ready to write more about the delicious things you can find here.

Welcome to bucolic northeast Portland.
Northeast Portland, looking like the countryside.

Some of you may know my work from when I lived in in Astoria, Queens, where I wrote about the local food scene for myriad online and print publications. I also researched and wrote Food Lovers’ Guide to Queens (2012, Globe Pequot Press), a guidebook to the restaurants, shops, and markets in the borough. It remains one of my favorite writing projects to date.

So, on this site look for content on food, food, and more food in the Portland metro area, including reviews, analysis, commentary, and events; my aim is to be honest but not cruel. My primary social media presence is on Instagram these days, and you can follow along on my explorations at both the Bridgetown Bites Instagram and my personal account. I’m always open to tips and suggestions on where and what to eat; you can use the information on the Contact page to contact me.

Thanks for reading.

  1. My son noticed that Snappy’s appears to be moving into the previous Little Big Burger spot on NW 23rd, and I found an LLC application for it: https://www.portland.gov/bds/liquor/documents/snappys/download. Do you have any information on this one? I love their Italian sub, and having a location within walking distance would be excellent.

Thanks for keeping this blog going. I enjoy all the updates!

    1. Hi Stephen, thank you for highlighting this. I included it in last Friday’s Four Things I Learned This Week (April 19). Was under the weather all last week, but was happy to feel better Friday and get the news out. Enjoy their Italian sub within walking distance!
