I’m sure gonna miss you, crispy potatoes.
While perusing Facebook on Sunday night I came across the news that Chameleon Restaurant & Bar will close by end end of the year. I have had a bunch of great meals there and good memories with friends over the years—while enjoying one of best backyards in Portland—and I am very sorry to see them go.
Pat Jeung cites “shorter staff, Covid restrictions, and more” as the reasons behind the closing of Chameleon, and says “for those reasons I need to make changes and move in new directions.” January 1, 2022 is the official closing date, though the restaurant will offer “occasional cooking classes, private events and pop-up dinner parties” starting in 2022, so that’s something. If you want to be informed of these events send Pat a message on Facebook or Instagram.
He adds, “I’m grateful for the love and support from all of you. How could I ask for a better clientele. Know you are more than that, you have become my friends and family.”

The Chameleon Wrap will also be missed.
There will be quite the sendoff at Chameleon on New Year’s Eve for a party and dinner, “The Last Supper.” They will feature some of the most popular dishes from the past 24 years in a prix fixe menu; wine and drink pairings are part of the deal, all for $195/per person. Reservations are required—call 503-460-2682. If it’s like previous years, there will be two seatings for the meal and then a 10pm celebration. I’ll update things when I get more details.

Chameleon’s fabulous backyard from another time.
Back in 2017 former editor of Eater PDX Mattie John Bamman wrote this great piece on Chameleon and Pat Jeung, and it’s worth a read. I was really happy to see him feature this unique and delicious spot in Portland’s Hollywood District. Chameleon’s exit is truly the end of an era in Portland.
