Great news—the Rocky Butte Farmers Market will operate weekly this year! From June 4 to September 24 you’ll be able to shop every Saturday during these four months.
Last year I really enjoyed shopping and spending time at the market, which operated once a month (here’s my August 2021 recap). There was a big effort to gather feedback at each market day, and the RBFM organizers were encouraged by the enthusiasm among shoppers for a weekly market. It will again take place on the expansive parking lot at Mannahouse Church.
“We’re excited to be partnering with Mannahouse again this year and bringing weekly markets to the community,” remarks Ben Cutler of the RBFM core group. “It feels good to be providing local food access for our neighborhood while also directly supporting local farmers and makers. Our neighborhood has needed this for far too long.”
Along with expanded market schedule, the plan is to bring on new farmers and food creators. Personally, I hope to see more produce vendors. And I hope to see some of my favorite vendors again, including Rocky Butte Coffee Roasters, T Bee S Honey, Sidekick Provisions, Red Truck Homestead, and more. Their list of vendors was 28 last year; they have planned more than 35 vendors this summer.
Live music will be back, too.
As you can imagine, the market organizers will need more volunteers this summer. Head to the Rocky Butte Farmers Market website to sign up to volunteer.
And if you’d like to participate in the market as a vendor, head to the Vending at RBFM page. Vendor applications open Monday, February 7. They “encourage both experienced and new and emerging farmers and makers to apply.”
I can’t tell you how excited I am about this new development in this wonderful market. It serves the surrounding neighborhoods of Madison South, Roseway, and Sumner well, and I hope it draws folks from all over Portland. See you in June!
