The Rocky Butte Farmers Market—which, as you may know, is going to operate weekly in 2022—is doing a fundraiser in support of the market’s expansion and its mission to be a community-centered market. They will be partnering with Sparrowhawk Native Plants for a plant sale and portion of the proceeds from the sale will benefit the Market. Sparrowhawk offers a whole variety of beautiful plants—sun loving, woodland, shade plants, groundcovers, and more—for your gardens. This is a great way to populate your garden with gorgeous natives and support the Market at the same time.
Here’s how it works:
Order plants online starting February 15.
You’ll head to the Sparrowhawk website to browse their plant offerings. You can filter plants by sun, moisture, and more to find the right plant for the right place in the location you have in mind, and put your order in starting on Tuesday, February 15 at 8am (ordering ends March 15). Some plants sell out early, so be aware.
After you’ve chosen your plants and head to checkout, select the pick up location, which is going to be at Dharma Rain (the location of RBFM’s initial markets), also known as “option 4.”
Pick up your plants.
This pop-up plant pickup will be on Friday and Saturday April 22 and 23, 2022. Dharma Rain is in the Madison South neighborhood at 8500 NE Siskiyou Street. When you do your online checkout mentioned above, you will select a time to pick up your plants; it’s important to get there on time. COVID protocols will be respected.
Plant your plants.
Spring is the best season, and having new plants to put in the ground or in containers is a joy.

You can volunteer, too.
Aside from purchasing plants, you can support this effort by volunteering to distribute plants in April. Help is definitely welcome for this big event. If you’d like to volunteer, you can sign up here.
It’s no secret that I love the work the Rocky Butte Farmers Market is doing, and how the folks behind it are bringing access to local, organic food and other excellent products to the traditionally underserved communities in Madison South, Roseway, and Sumner. This work is important. I hope you will consider buying some plants to support the Market—and shopping at the Market this summer!
