Inside Bee’s Cakes and Cafe

A beautiful treatment of this coffee table in the dining room at Bee’s Cakes and Cafe.

On Saturday I headed over to Bee’s Cakes and Cafe for their first in-person dining opportunity. It was so fun to see the decor, feel the vibe, and of course the pastries were excellent. Rebecca and her team have created a lovely space in Roseway.

Here are some photos of the interior.

The pastries were nicely displayed—a room temperature case by the counter and a cold case located toward the dining room.

We chose a thin mint cupcake, chocolate almond croissant, and pesto roll (as well as some ice cream, not pictured).

I had a taste of the thin mint cupcake and it was a faithful flavor sibling to the classic Girl Scouts cookie of the same name. I heard the croissant was excellent and my dining companion put it up there with the croissants at Nuvrei and Jinju, which is high praise in my book.

The pesto roll was delicious. The dough was soft and luxurious and I absolutely loved the texture. The filling of pesto and cheese (maybe feta? chevre?) was tasty but it easily spilled out onto the table. I think it would have been easier to eat it on a plate (I ate it over the to-go packaging it came in). I hope in the future they will implement plates when necessary. Despite that, though, I would get the pesto roll again in a heartbeat. The drizzle of balsamic glaze was also a tasty flavor match to the rest of the bun.

I should add that the latte they made for me was also very good. Strong enough for me, which I appreciated.

We walked home via the Roseway park blocks on what was a stunningly gorgeous day. The plum trees are starting to bloom around Portland and it really makes it feel like spring is coming.

I look forward to the next day Bee’s is open. Whenever that happens, I recommend stopping in for one of her excellent baked goods and a well-made coffee.
