Portland Strawberry Museum Returns to Zuckercreme This Year

Last year I remember coming across something called the “Portland Strawberry Museum” and wondering, “what the heck was that?” I mean, what a great name! Is there some kind of museum dedicated to strawberries in Portland? Turns out it was a month of Saturdays in June of celebrating the strawberry, from Brittany Sigal’s Zuckercreme (then a popup). It is back this year for the entire month of June at her space in Montavilla.

Full disclosure: strawberries are my favorite berry. I have grown June-bearing strawberries at my home for the past few years (though last year was an anemic crop because of the voracious squirrels, sad face). I like to make strawberry jam (thank you Christine Ferber) and get my fill. This year I planted some everbearing strawberries, so I hope to have strawberries throughout summer, But June is the big month for strawberries in Portland, all things considered, so June is the perfect month for the Portland Strawberry Museum to be up and running.

This year at the Zuckercreme shop, June will be completely dedicated to strawberry-themed items. Look for tasty treats—fresh berries, strawberry-focused drinks, pastries. There will also be non-edible strawberry-centric things to peruse and buy, including art, vintage items, and clothing. This is their biggest event of the year.

Zuckercreme has put out a call for vendors for “Market Days” during the Strawberry Museum month. There will be a total of eight markets on the weekends: June 4 & 5, 11 & 12, 18 & 19, 25 & 26. Market hours are noon to 4pm. The Strawberry Cafe & Gift Shop will operate Wednesdays through Sundays.

If you’d like to be a vendor, head to this form and fill out the fields. There’s also info about capacity, suggestions about quantity of goods, vendor fee, the amount of space per vendor, and timing.

So, if you love—or even just like—strawberries, Zuckercreme is the place to be this June. It will no doubt be a fun, festive, and delicious event. See you there!
