2023 Women’s World Cup Watch Party at The Sports Bra Sunday

I received a very personable piece of PR last week that I wanted to share with you. It’s about the Women’s World Cup competition going on right now—did you know the US team has advanced to Round 16? They’ll be competing against Sweden in Australia, and you can watch it with your fellow women’s soccer fans at The Sports Bra Sunday morning.

At 2am Sunday morning—yes, 2am—there will be a watch party where you can cheer on the US team at the only bar in the world dedicated to women’s sports, right here in Portland, The Sports Bra. I love hanging out there for a number of reasons: the dedication to showing women’s sports and only women’s sports on their multiple TVs; the delicious food and tasty mocktails; and I feel valued the minute I walk in. It’s a really great space there on NE Broadway in Sullivan’s Gulch.

There’s an interesting quote from the press release:

“This season has been deemed as the summer of women’s sports. However, research shows that women’s sports television coverage receives 5.4% of airtime compared to men’s sports. The lack of attention for women’s sports has far-reaching consequences, from pay disparities to unequal opportunities and limited brand awareness.”

This event on Sunday morning is a collaboration between The Sports Bra, Strava (a subscription platform for connected fitness) and TOGETHXR (a media and commerce company and “fastest growing women’s sports brand”). It’s free to attend and you can register on Eventbrite for the free ticket. Food & Drink will be provided courtesy of Strava, TOGETHXR and The Sports Bra. The watch party will take place inside and outside The Sports Bra.

Additionally, there will be an optional run/walk starting at midnight, two hours before , “a proof point of the strength and commitment of female athletes and the communities they gather.” Info on this is also on that Eventbrite link above. 5K route is TBD at this point in time.

And on top of that, you can also support the women’s team by joining the Run the World TOGETHXR challenge on Strava. If you walk, hike or run eight miles (the equivalent to how much ground a soccer player covers during one soccer game) between now and August 20 (recording your mileage as a Strava member), you have a chance to win a trip to Australia.

This is going to be a really fun event—yes, it’s early but you’ll have time to sleep later on Sunday. Come to The Sports Bra and cheer on the US Women’s soccer team!
