Masarap Food Cart Open at NE Sandy and 82nd Avenue

While driving along NE 82nd Avenue the other day, I noticed a new cart that has established itself on the southwest corner of NE Sandy Blvd and 82nd Avenue. It’s Masarap, “serving homemade lumpia and fresh baked goods.” A Filipino food cart? Sign me up!

Their location is on the property of the Green Front Dispensary, which transformed an old used tire lot to an additional location of their very popular cannabis business. Honestly, I hadn’t even considered that a food cart might open up on that property. But whatever, I’m glad to see Masarap take residence there.

They had their grand opening in mid-October, and offer “the freshest ingredients and traditional techniques to bring you the authentic flavors of Filipino cuisine.” They sometimes call themselves “Filipino Kagat,” and from what I can tell, “kagat” means “bite” in Tagalog (please correct me if I am wrong). Their menu features kagat, fresh baked goods, boba tea, and coffee.

Lumpia is a main player on the menu, including a Dessert Lumpia: ube lumpia with ube coconut cream dipping sauce. They also offer chicken and vegetable dumplings, ube waffles, steamed buns, a variety of ube-oriented baked goods (like ensaymada), bubble tea and a smoothie, and hot or iced coffee. Check out the online menu for more details, and the on-site menu below.

Their About page explains, “Our Filipino American heritage inspires us to create small hot plates and grab & go bites the way we like them. We infuse ube into everything, including waffles, rolls, ensaymadas, and even ice cream.” If you like ube, this is the place to go.

So stop on by, check them out. I’m glad to see them in this little corner of east Portland.
