After a pop-up (2018), a monthly market (2019), a COVID break (2020), and three years of weekly markets (2021 to 2023), the Rocky Butte Farmers Market returns in 2024 with another season of weekly markets—at a new location.

Location Details

The Market’s location is no longer atop the actual Rocky Butte, but is down off the butte and onto NE Siskiyou Street between NE 80th and NE 82nd Avenues—that’s two blocks of Market goodness. So how will they take over the street? PBOT has partnered with the market this year and they will close off those two blocks of Siskiyou on Saturday mornings. Note that the market will not block the entrance/exit to the parking lot at Glenhaven Park, so park users do not have to worry about being kept out.

Here’s a map (click to enlarge)—I indicated the old location (northeast corner) and the new location (southwest corner), as well as the original location of the Market at Dharma Rain, to give you some perspective on where the RBFM has called home over the years:

RBFM organizers are calling this new physical format as having “a block party vibe,” and I think that is apt.

“One of our major goals during the off-season was to relocate the market to make it more central and accessible for neighbors and those coming from further away,” said Benjamin Cutler, co-founder and board President. “Our site selection team succeeded thanks to a new partnership with PBOT! We are excited to recreate the magic we cultivated with our vendors and volunteers at the highly visible location on Siskiyou Street beside Glenhaven park this June. We’re looking forward to celebrating local food, crafts and community as we continue to grow RBFM!”

You know, I loved all the space up at Mannahouse and the fact that it was on Rocky Butte. But to be honest, having the market up there kept it kind of “hidden.” I think the new location will be more accessible than the old one. It embeds the Market where Madison South and Roseway meet, and it’s still close to Sumner.

Getting There and Doing Stuff

As for how to get to the Market, you can drive (I have asked for clarification on parking options). There’s a bus stop (line 72) right there at the corner of Siskiyou and 82nd Avenue. Just two blocks north at NE Fremont and 80th is a stop for line 24. Plus it will be easy to walk to the market from the surrounding neighborhoods (flatter and more convenient terrain).

They are planning on also bringing back all the familiar things they had at the other location: Vendors, first and foremost, offering affordable locally-grown foods and artisan products. And speaking of vendors, if you’d like to be one or want more information about being a vendor, check out the Vending at RBFM page on the Market’s website.

Also you can expect live music and entertainment; giveaways; market BINGO; and the Community Table. As far as the Kids Patch goes, the first 25 market-goers ages 3 to 13 who stop by the KP will each get a free $5 token to spend during their visit.

Well-behaved dogs will still be welcome. The organizers are also cooking up some new things for this new location, which is very exciting.

Rocky Butte Farmers Market proudly accepts Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP), matching up to $20 per market day with Double Up Food Bucks through a partnership with the Farmers Market Fund.

All the best to the RBFM at their new location! I look forward to stopping in this season.
