Champagne Poetry Will Offer Asian Fusion Cuisine on NW 23rd Avenue

A reader emailed me asking, “Is Champagne Poetry moving into the Killer Burger spot on NW 23rd”? After thinking about it for a bit, I asked Dan Bian, the owner of Champagne Poetry on SE Hawthorne if it was true. And it is!

About Champagne Poetry and Dan Bian

Champagne Poetry is a patisserie on SE Hawthorne that serves beautiful desserts, pastries, macarons, Japanese Soufflé pancakes, and coffee. It’s adorable inside with lots of pink, flowers, and other visual statements that are traditionally considered feminine. Owner Dan Bian has an impressive pastry background, having attended Le Cordon Bleu in Portland and trained with patisserie legends Cedric Grolet and Johan Martin.

It’s her mousse cakes that stick out in my mind, as they are beautiful and visually stunning. Here’s an example, the La Vie En Rose cake (dark chocolate mousse cake with raspberry purée):

Japanese Soufflé pancakes are another popular item on the menu, and I remember first having these jiggly pancakes back when she was running La Rose Patisserie in Beaverton. They are so fun to eat; I loved them.

Champagne Poetry’s NW Portland Location

As for what this second Champagne Poetry is going to offer (the original is staying put, so no worries there), it sounds like a broader range of foods: pastries, yes, but also Asian fusion cuisine. While Bian did not give specifics, the impression I got was that this means more substantial things, some of which are savory. Finally, she mentioned “cocktail wine,” which means adult beverages.

As for the interior? A bit of a mystery still. She’s working hard on the place, and there’s not much publicly available as far as photos and such of the space. As far as when you’ll get to see it, she said “Hopefully I can get it open in 2 months! I’m very excited!” I’ll check back in with her as we get closer to the opening.
