What’s Up With Arrowood in Portland?

A Bridgetown Bites tipster informed me this weekend that Arrowood, a relaxed restaurant that offers elevated comfort food, cocktails and craft beers in the Rose City Park neighborhood, has indicated it is closed. But is it permanent? Or just temporary?

Arrowood: Closed Until Further Notice

"This restaurant will be closed until further notice."

Here is the sign indicating Arrowood’s closure. I stopped by today and it was still up. I have called them multiple times and nobody picks up—it just keeps ringing and ringing. From what I can tell, their hours have been inconsistent for at least a few weeks.

Social Media Also Wonders What’s Up

Yelpers and social media commenters have also been wondering what’s up over the past weeks:

  • “Is it closed permanently? Tried to go last Friday but it was completely dark … We love this place. What’s happening?”
  • “Whatever has been happing at Arrowood recently? Closed often and so I have found another place to go. This was one of my favorite bar restaurants What happened?”
  • “When do you re-open? Or will you??”
  • “Dang- not open tonight?”

Back in mid-October they were burglarized, which I’m sure didn’t help. According to Mike Duggan, Arrowood’s manager, they got “5k worth of booze and some miscellaneous stuff along with some property damage.”

I’ve enjoyed meals there over the years, and while I once experienced a pretty epic service issue, it does not detract from the quality of the food (especially their various fritters, which are delicious) and atmosphere. It really is a nice place to have a meal in the neighborhood. Plus their support of the Rocky Butte Farmers Market early on is much appreciated.

I reached out to Arrowood via email (along with the aforementioned phone calls) to learn more and will pass on to you what I learn. And if you know what is going on, feel free to contact me. And Mike—reach out if you can! I would love to get your side of the story.
