Folks in North Portland can now enjoy lunch at Migration Brewing pub on North Williams. They started lunch hours—opening at noon every day except Mondays when they are closed—earlier this month.

A Bit About Migration Brewing

Theis craft brewery was founded by four friends: McKean Banzer-Lausberg, Colin Rath, Eric Banzer-Lausberg, and Mike Branes. The first Migration Brewing location was their brewpub on NE Glisan Street. After that, they opened their 20,000 square foot Gresham production facility in 2018. Their North Williams location opened in 2021.

Migration is considered one of the fastest growing breweries in Oregon. They distribute their beer in Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Idaho, Hong Kong, and Japan. Last year they were acknowledged as the 2024 U.S. SBA Oregon Small Business of the Year.

They produce a variety of beer styles—IPA, lager, stout, pale ale, pilsner, and the Stoller Pinot Kriek, which I believe is a kind of lambic; “kriek” is Flemish for “cherry.”

Lunch at Migration Brewing: Beer and Food

Owner Colin Rath was the one who reached out with the new lunch hours news. They are excited to offer their craft beer earlier in the day during these expanded hours. And along with their beer taps waking up earlier, their on-site food cart Pápa’s Frita will also be open with their savory Nicaraguan fare for lunch.

“We’re thrilled to open our doors for lunch with Pápa’s Frita to our Williams Pub & Patio,” said Colin. “Our goal is to create a space where people can connect over delicious food and exceptional beer, whether they’re grabbing a midday pint or enjoying a relaxing lunch on the patio.”

Pápa’s Frita

Pápa’s Frita holds the honor as being the first Nicaraguan restaurant/food truck in Portland; they offer Nicaraguan and Nicaraguan-inspired food. They started out at the Farmhouse Carts, and last fall they transitioned to serving food out of the Migration Brewing Williams Pub kitchen.

One of the things Pápa’s Frita boasts among their offerings is Fritanga. Fritanga is often considered to be a place that serves homestyle Nicaraguan food, but at Pápa’s Frita it lives as a dish. “Fritanga is the national street food of Nicaragua,” explains René Ruiz, proprietor of Pápa’s Frita. “It consists of gallo pinto (red beans and rice), cabbage salad, plantains, fried cheese, and your choice of seasoned and grilled beef, chicken, or pork. Add some pickled onion and chilis and you’ve got a plate bursting with multiple flavors and textures.”

Additionally, you’ll find some burgers, maduros, tostones, yucca fries, and more, including a Refresco de Cacoa, “made from whole cacao beans roasted in house and blended into a chocolatey Horchata drink.” Sign me up.

All of this sounds great paired with Migration’s beers—and while enjoying their spacious outdoor patio seating area. Note: Healthcare workers receive 10% off their order when they show their employee badge.

This is a nice opportunity to have some lunch with good food and drink. I love seeing places expand their hours to include lunch—my second favorite meal of the day. So stop by, have a Migration beer, and enjoy some great Nicaraguan street food with it, too.
