It’s back! World Vegan Month 2025 is happening in Portland throughout the month of November. Now in its third year, this is a great opportunity to try and experience the variety of vegan and plant-based offerings in Portland, through dishes made especially for this occasion.

Portland Is for Vegans

Portland certainly has a reputation as a good place for vegan eats and drinks. Most recently the personal finance company WalletHub—which does various ranking and lists throughout the year—proclaimed Portland as the best city for vegans and vegetarians in 2025. Accompanying us at the top of the heat are LA, Austin, SF, and Oakland. At the bottom of the list is Anchorage, AK.

WalletHub wrote this about Portland:

“It boasts the second-highest number of affordable restaurants offering vegan and vegetarian meals with favorable ratings. The city also stands out for its abundant organic farms, farmers’ markets, and vegetable nurseries, contributing to its status as a plant-based food hub. Additionally, Portland residents are known for their strong adherence to plant-based diets, with a much higher than average consumption of vegetables.”

As an aside, during Salad Week this year we got a comment that many of the salads we featured were not vegan. It was kind of mind blowing to read that—and it was a true statement—so we will be looking closer at vegan salads during next year’s Salad Week.

World Vegan Month 2025

This monthlong focus on vegan food in Portland is again produced by Waz Wu and Veganizer. They have a great reputation for putting on successful vegan events, and I expect World Vegan Month this year will have a lot to offer. Last year there were 33 participating businesses; this year there are 39. All will be offering delicious plant-based food and drink specials.

Participating businesses include restaurants, food carts, and pop-ups. From Veganizer:

“Veganizer’s annual World Vegan Month dining program is our way of celebrating here in Portland, while highlighting local businesses and raising awareness for important causes. Each participating business, including Veganizer, has selected a cause and will be donating a portion of sales from their World Vegan Month specials.”

The Passport Returns During World Vegan Month 2025

This is a fun element of World Vegan Month: collecting stamps in your passport. Here’s how it works (copy written by the organizers):

  • Pick up World Vegan Month dining stamp cards from any participating location.
  • Order World Vegan Month specials to collect stamps.
  • Drop off completed cards at participating locations to be entered into the raffle prize details.

Every special purchased = one stamp, two specials purchased = two stamps, etc. Some businesses may have multiple specials available. If a location has sold out of their special for the day, a purchase of equal value qualifies for a stamp.

The grand prize is pretty sweet: a $25 gift card to every participating business during the month. Runners-up get a $50 gift card to the business of their choice. They’ll draw and announce the winners in December.

So take this opportunity to try some new-to-you vegan restaurants, or return to those you love. It’s going to be a great month of plant-based eating!
