Salad Week 2026 is almost here! We’ll be turning our focus to salads later this month, from Monday, July 20 to Friday, July 24. Look for salad specials, roundups, some Vancouver action, and more.

Summer Supper From Urban Gleaners Is a Good Time for a Great Cause

One of my favorite dishes from last year’s Summer Summer was Goi Cá: turmeric catfish, mint, basil, scallion, greens, onion, apples, peanuts, fish sauce, and black sesame rice cracker, from Richard Văn Lê of After Ours/Matta/Mémoire Cà Phê.

Summer Supper returns to the Redd in September! This thoughtful tasting event features over a dozen talented and well-respected Portland chefs who will create dishes made from gleaned ingredients. It is also a way to celebrate Urban Gleaners’ 20th anniversary. Part of the mission behind Summer Supper is to fight food waste and food insecurity in our community, and this event is an excellent way to showcase that.

Small Bites: Grits N’ Gravy, Farag’s, Sure Shot, and More

Grits N’ Gravy has closed. (Not to be confused with Gravy on N Mississippi.) This was a breakfast spot downtown next door to Souvlaki Queen. At first they thought they could do one more breakfast but they “have been given no leeway.” In their words, “Times have gotten hard and business has been declining since last August. We held on for as long as we could but we can’t keep going.”
