Portland! It’s where I live, work, and play. It’s where the food news happens (at least most of it). This category is one of the real constants on Bridgetown Bites and is probably a part of almost every post on this blog.
Back in August we posted an article about the PDX apple recycling project, where backyard apples all around the Portland area are gathered together to make cider. Well, the apples were collected, the cider pressed and left to ferment, and now Portland Cider Company’s Oregon Wild Cider is here! This is the second year it’s been released. Today is a big day in the world of philanthropy—#GivingTuesday, a global day of generosity and giving. It follows the more consumer-oriented theme days of Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, and encourages people to give to organizations and projects they feel passionate about.

Earlier this week, Esquire published an article by Amanda Cohen about women chefs and the media. She is, of course, executive chef and owner of NYC’s Dirt Candy, one of the most influential vegetable-focused restaurants in the U.S. In the article, I’ve Worked in Food for 20 Years. Now You Finally Care About Female Chefs?, Cohen expresses anger and frustration at the media for this: “Women may not have value as chefs, but as victims we’re finally interesting!”
