El Sombrero Tapatio: A Family Affair in East Portland

I’ve been eating at El Sombrero Tapatio since I moved to East Portland in 2019. Opened originally in 2002, it’s a mainstay of the restaurant scene in Parkrose. Mama Elvira, the matriarch of the family behind El Sombrero, is the heart and soul of the kitchen, but this restaurant is truly a team effort—relatives and close family friends all contribute to its success.

Next week and next month Historic Parkrose will hold a street fair and night market featuring more than 35 local vendors (food carts and small businesses), performers (live bands and dance groups), and artists, saturating this little corner of Portland with talent. It’s family-friendly and free to attend.

The Wooden Chicken Pub Is Closing

Yesterday afternoon I learned that the Wooden Chicken Pub in Parkrose is closing. Sunday, June 30 will be their final day of service.

Rib City 29 Pub Is Coming to Parkrose

This week I came across a new business opening in Portland called Rib City 29 Pub, located in the Parkrose neighborhood on NE Sandy Blvd. I’ve driven by this location many times and it’s always intrigued me. I’m glad to know what’s going on—here’s what I learned.

Sandy-O’s Is Open

Thanks to a Bridgetown Bites reader, I’ve learned that Sandy-Os is now open in the Parkrose neighborhood. I spotted the changes coming to this space back in April, and am happy that they finally opened their doors earlier this week.
